Bikini Island Studio
A Mixing, Mastering and Music Production Studio In Portobello, Dublin.
The Studio is the product of a 20 year obsession with collecting and hoarding all kinds of Audio Gear, Instruments and various sonic contraptions.
Over the years the studio has gravitated towards combining the sound and vibe of older analog gear with the precision, convenience and innovation of new digital technology.
At the Heart of the studio’s Mixing set up is a Neve 8816 Analog Summing Mixer to add the weight and character of mixing in the analog world.
This is combined with array of Analogue outboard processing ranging from Industry standard, to Boutique Company’s along with some DIY Units hand built in the studio. The Outboard processing includes IGS EQP-2 Stereo tube Mastering EQ (stereo pultec) GSSL Masterbus Compressor (DIY Unit Hand built in house) , Hand Build Hardware Stereo Tape Simulator , Neve 5043 Bus Compressor/Limiter, Universal Audio LA-610 , along with an assortment of reverbs, Tape Delay’s, Filter’s and fx Boxes to really keep things interesting.
On The digital Audio Conversion side of things, the mix setup is fed by a Antelope Orion Digital Conversion feeding 16 channel of pristine audio out to the outboard and summing mixer, with an additional 8 channels coming via adat from an Apogee Ensemble for extra sends to processing and fx.
The returning mix from the Neve summing mixer is then captured by a Mytek Stereo 96 ADC for 2 channels of Mastering grade conversion to ensure nothing is lost in the transition back to digital.
The Studio is acoustically treated to have a frequency spot as close to flat as possible, yet maintain a natural and balanced sound throughout the room. Monitoring consists of a pair of Digidesign RM2s (PMC Designed) and a Pair of Genelec 1030A’s
